Apple Laptops

OK, so it's a crisis, right? Just thinking about the expected jump of the memory prices makes me shiver, but I don't think I'll need additional memory anytime soon. Just as a side note, Qimonda closed its doors, and prices are jumping as high as 30% more than before this sad event, although it may take a few days or even weeks for this to reach retail stores. On the other hand, laptop demand is going down, and Apple may not be able to dodge the crisis any longer...

Apple Laptops Trend

According to a new survey by ChangeWave, "The short term outlook for Apple Mac sales looks rougher in our survey than the Street may expect. Only 27% of respondents who plan to buy a laptop in the next 90 days say it'll be a Mac - down 6-pts since November to our weakest visibility reading for Apple laptops in nearly two years."

The good part is that netbooks demand is rising, so everything should be obvious for Apple engineers - they need to come up with a sub-$500 laptop able to face the new asus Eee PC or the sony VAIO Lifestyle.

Now, there's only one question remaining - will they be able to do it in time? After all, we've been waiting for ages to see an affordable Mac laptop, with full warranty and right out of the box. We all know this is possible, but Apple may simply turn its back to the notebooks and keep the product line as it is. I wouldn't be amazed to see that happening, despite the opportunity they are facing now. At least that's what I think, so... what's your opinion about this?
